We read scriptures with the kids every night. We found some board books with simple pictures and the stories to go with them. Each page has anywhere from a sentence to a paragraph. We typically read only one page. Once Santiago got so excited we read much more...but that was only once. :) We are trying to also read a "real" verse every night too so they can get used to the language and recognize the accounts. We will continue to read these accounts of great men, women, prophets, apostles, and our Savior, because they teach us things we need throughout our life. Things we can draw upon when the road gets rough, or more importantly before it gets rough.
Tonight we acted out a story from the Book Of Mormon. The Book of Mormon is another Testament of Jesus Christ written by people who lived on the American Continent during the time of Christ. It spans from about 600 years before the birth of Christ to about 400 years after. It is used as a companion to the bible. It is a powerful set of scriptures. I always draw such strength from it.
This particular day we acted out Nephi Builds a Boat. It is about a man named Nephi. He is the son of a prophet. They are trying to escape persecution and are lead by God to the edge of a large body of water. Nephi is shown how to make tools and build a boat. He then is able to cross safely with his family to a new land of promise. It reminds me that when we rely on God, do what we are asked, and work hard he will show us the way and lead us safely home.
